The Islamic Awareness Stall is where the Islamic Diversity Centre began, and is the bread and butter of its work. It was the first service the organisation offered before venturing into other areas such as Education, Social Initiatives and New Muslim Support. The stall aims to provide awareness and challenge negative stereotypes and misconceptions of Islam and Muslims, through direct and open conversations with the general public in a safe and open environment.
The team set up a pop up stall at the Monument, Newcastle City Centre every Saturday afternoon; where they hand out free literature and answer any questions posed to them.
Since starting the Islamic Awareness Stall, the Islamic Diversity Centre have had great feedback from the non-Muslim communities, who feel that having the opportunity to engage with Muslims directly has helped clear up misconceptions and helped them understand areas of Islam they would have otherwise been unaware or unsure of.
Over time, the stall has become a known reliable information station and point of contact for new Muslims who are looking for support in their journey to Islam or even simply looking to connect with other Muslims.
