The Random Act of Kindness initiative was started by the Islamic Diversity Centre in 2014 during the month of Ramadan, where Muslims were encouraged to participate by collecting food donations after Iftar at the local mosques and give it to the homeless on their way home. With the food donation they would give a Random Acts of Kindness Card, a small educational note explaining the reason why it is important as a Muslim to be kind. This initiative soon evolved into something bigger, where people were creating their own Random Acts of Kindness such as buying a colleague lunch or helping and elderly person cross the road.
Jarir reported from Allah’s Messenger (pbuh), “He who is deprived of tenderly feelings is in fact deprived of good.” Sahih Muslim, Book 45, Hadith 96
